The ME 888 Marathon Ultra is the successor to the ME 880 Marathon, a tire trusted by V-Twin custom bike riders and builders, specifically engineered for increased mileage. The ME 888 features a newly designed compound, profile, tread pattern, and contact patch shape, improving mileage without sacrificing the grip, handling, and wet performance established by the ME 880.

■ Profile
While using a polyester carcass for bias sizes (and aramid belts for belted bias), the ME 888 utilizes a completely different profile. The shape from the center to the shoulder is flatter than the ME 880, suppressing tread deformation, reducing stress on the tire, and achieving better mileage.
■ Tread Pattern Design
The ME 888 features a "compound bridge" between grooves to suppress tread deformation and wear-related performance degradation. The groove angles are optimized based on the direction of force applied from the road surface, which varies by lean angle and rotation direction, reducing stress and preventing uneven wear.

Compared to the ME 880, the contact patch is 5% shorter and 15% wider. The shorter length reduces the time force is applied to the tread, lowering stress on the compound.
